DRONE BUILDER 1.0 IS OFFICIALLY LIVE + huge DIYFPV updates
G day. I’m excited to announce the DIYFPV drone builder studio is officially live.
This interactive build studio lets you import your favourite FPV parts and create a virtual build. Looking back at our builder proof of concept vs what we have today fills me with such pride and hope for our hobby. (you can see the old concepts attatched to this post)
Features
- Import your parts into the build studio with 1-1 recreations from the community
-Alerts if there are any shorts or incorrect connections with your build
-Wiring assistant mode so you can see recommended ways to wire something up
-Learn mode - select any pad or pin. Learn its function, how it works and why it is important to your fpv build
-Share it with your friends, get feedback. Updates in real time
We also released a community build feature or as I like to call it the “build builder”. This is for people who want to not only create a wiring schematic of their build but also use it in a build guide. It will auto populate your components from your build, show the wiring schematic of how they go together and prompt you a few bits so making a full build guide is easier than ever.
New feature- the Part library is now available to all users. This is an easy way to inspect a part, check pinouts and mappings. Great for when you want to quickly check some technical aspects of a part you are about to build with. This started as an internal dev tool we were using to check components but it was so useful it is now open to all.
Stack and Multiboard support
The part builder now supports creating parts with multiple boards/stacks. Select add a new board when building your part and then just follow the normal build process. This means that when you import these parts into your drone builds in the studio it will automatically import both boards at once.

The thing we need help with now is people continuing to make parts in the part builder or it would be amazing to see some people publishing some build guides for others to learn from. If you have a build you love to fly, please do a write up and build guide for it here on diyfpv.

Which one should I choose of the 3 different versions ? I wanna fly outdoors, freestyle a little bit. And I also wanna have one that I very durable. Should I go for the Champion Edition?

Does anyone have a way to stop the pigtail solder joints disconnecting on the drone? The negative solder joint keeps disconnecting after 5 or so flights. Tried using flux but it just won't stick. Thanks!

A quick end-of-day flight, with the sun setting at 6:30 p.m. this time of year! A bit of wind, but less than yesterday… It's crazy how much I love the quality and durability of the Meteor75… this thing is a beast! Yesterday I flew the Mobula, and good thing, because the wind was blowing like crazy… Today was way better. Anyway, I hope I'm not bugging anyone too much with my videos… but if it makes a few people want to fly, all the better! GOoooo

When I tried to build a light strip in the Drone Builder, I sized the front image properly (as seen below), but then when I went to the next step to draw the outline, it compressed the image (as seen below). I don't know why.

Short Video - Linked up DJI G3 to N3 goggles and my grandson was onboard for a fly along with me. I was trying real hard not to go 'splat' in front of him. Heads up, this is a wall of text, but I really hope it helps save someone money.
I have to be honest with you guys, I have a major personality flaw that compels me to try to help people if I think I can. The thing is, sometimes that gets annoying, like if Im commenting on all the posts here or if I call out something someone you like does. Hopefully this isnt too annoying.
Before I get into it, this isnt about Stew at all, it is an industry wide problem. This isnt a commentary on these people as people, sometimes “useful fools” get taken advantage of by others through no fault of their own (until it becomes a recognized pattern). This seems to have happened with someone I used to watch a lot and that helped me get into fpv. They have been back in my feed again and today they released a video that looks pretty positive on the surface, but all I see is them taking advantage of their audience.
A little bit about YouTube, there are a lot of ways to make money on the site, most of them involve advertising and sales commissions, which isnt inherently wrong. After the recent changes to the site, the reports Im seeing are claiming that for an individual to do YouTube full time, with low level sponsorships, they now need around 250k- 500k subs. So if someone is using YouTube to support a family, with a +2500sqft house, and has under 100k subs, they are making a bulk of their money from something else. If their description of each video is literally full of referral links and +90% of their content is product showcases presented as reviews, then their money is likely coming from your pocket in the form of secondary ad money and sales commissions.
Now if someone has a patreon, that money is still coming directly from you, but ive noticed the people that specialize in product showcases dont advertise patreons very much. The difference isnt necessarily in the amount of money you give them, it’s what you get in exchange for the money. If you watch the product showcasers, they really aren’t honest in the long run. Sure there has to be the token criticism of the product so people watch, but pay attention to what they say in their future videos. A lot of times they end up contradicting themselves because they are selling you products, not information.
So, if someone makes videos about a controversial topic, like latency, to sell a new/unproven system to beginners and farms engagement from it by saying it doesnt matter, that might be a red flag. HOWEVER, there is a genuine argument that beginners shouldn’t care about latency and need encouragement to spend this much money. BUT if they do all that and their next video is promoting racing, thats 100% a giant red flag. Its like this:
Step 1: promote new high latency, unproven system using drama and personal insecurities of your audience, audience "defends you", buys the new system with your links, profit.
Step 2: wait a week or so for the drama to die down, hope people move on
Step 3: promote beloved community racing event, dont address the recent controversy directly or use analog for the video. Audience becomes energized about a fresh topic.
Step 4: audience races for a week or two and realize latency, penetration, etc matters, so you make a new video and promote the same company’s low latency analog system. Second profit.
The company wins, the YouTuber wins, but the audience is either stuck with 2 low budget systems or they just lose all their races and get discouraged. Ultimately the outcome of this series of videos will be unnecessary frustration for at least a portion of the audience and end up doing the exact opposite of what the YouTuber originally intended.
But this isnt even the first time this YouTuber has done something like this recently. the first thing that put them back in my feed was a "leak" for a supposedly amazing drone that got people amped for weeks before its release. Then that drone ended up being one of the most anti consumer/anti repair/pro planned obsolescence fpv drones I have ever seen.
So in summary, there isnt anything wrong with having "a favorite host on the Shopping Channel," just try to keep in mind the differences between that type of person who is primarily extracting value from our community and someone who is genuinely doing reviews, aggregating information and adding value back into the community.

Freestyles great and is very responsive. It has gotten into a few crashes but the frame has managed to hold up and nothing has broken. The only problem so far is that the negative solder joint has came loose a few times, not sure why as the connection seems solid.

I was out to get a haircut before jumping on a plane for vacation next week when I remembered that the mall never truly closes. Worked here back in the day as security, and there was always a crowd that would show up before 'open hours', commonly referred to as the 'mall walkers'. Finally figured out how they were getting in...14 years later lol.

How's your slow game though? Can you fly slowly in small spaces/tight obstacles? That's always overlooked IMO because its easy to fly fast, but much harder to get low, slow, and tight.
Solid progress so far though! And a KILLER environment to fly in!

Hi there,
So I tested the motors and 2 of them have grinding sound....
Is it just dust ?? And should I take it apart and clean it but I know it is painful and sketchy 😕😕
Is it okay to fly like that ?
I went flying with this sound, but I didn't know if the oscillation where from the motors or from the windy weather

My grandson had his first FPV flying experience today. Young people are so good at everything - check out his maiden flight. He was excited and happy to have a go. We tried out linking up DJI G3 to N3 goggles today - it's pretty neat stuff. We both had a fun time. Happy flying everyone.
