DRONE BUILDER 1.0 IS OFFICIALLY LIVE + huge DIYFPV updates
G day. I’m excited to announce the DIYFPV drone builder studio is officially live.
This interactive build studio lets you import your favourite FPV parts and create a virtual build. Looking back at our builder proof of concept vs what we have today fills me with such pride and hope for our hobby. (you can see the old concepts attatched to this post)
Features
- Import your parts into the build studio with 1-1 recreations from the community
-Alerts if there are any shorts or incorrect connections with your build
-Wiring assistant mode so you can see recommended ways to wire something up
-Learn mode - select any pad or pin. Learn its function, how it works and why it is important to your fpv build
-Share it with your friends, get feedback. Updates in real time
We also released a community build feature or as I like to call it the “build builder”. This is for people who want to not only create a wiring schematic of their build but also use it in a build guide. It will auto populate your components from your build, show the wiring schematic of how they go together and prompt you a few bits so making a full build guide is easier than ever.
New feature- the Part library is now available to all users. This is an easy way to inspect a part, check pinouts and mappings. Great for when you want to quickly check some technical aspects of a part you are about to build with. This started as an internal dev tool we were using to check components but it was so useful it is now open to all.
Stack and Multiboard support
The part builder now supports creating parts with multiple boards/stacks. Select add a new board when building your part and then just follow the normal build process. This means that when you import these parts into your drone builds in the studio it will automatically import both boards at once.

The thing we need help with now is people continuing to make parts in the part builder or it would be amazing to see some people publishing some build guides for others to learn from. If you have a build you love to fly, please do a write up and build guide for it here on diyfpv.

I was flyin my 5” quad, relaxin, minding my own business, when out of no where, without provocation, a pine tree, hell bent on fu#kin up my day, jumped right in front of me, attacked and bit my quad and made me climb clean to the top of it to retrieve it! I’m flyin my 5inch quad today. Rippin a monster mining head frame at the old Travona mine cite. Gotta be real careful here, if I hit this monster, it usually creams my quad. I have broke a lot of frames, arms, motors and cameras here. It also has a security fence around it, so its hard to recover my quad if I crash. Nothing but hard things everywhere, so a crash is no fun at all! Flights here are always a challenge. So, why do I do it? Because, I gotta! Enjoy! Fly safe, fly free!

I’m flyin the big boy today. Nothing like a 7” quad for a smooth cinematic flight. I sprinkled in a little freestyle just for the fun of it. Most of the time, I fly around a lot of tress, bushes and soft grass. Lots of hard rocks here, so I got to be careful. Nothing but hard everything everywhere, no soft spots at all. So a crash is out of the question today!
I haven’t flown this spot before, so I have to be careful. Little disappointed, someone is building a home cite here, cutting a road through all of that beautiful rock. Can’t see it from the road, so it surprised me once I was in the air. Anyway, first time flights in a new spot are always a bit of a challenge. But, that’s what keeps it interesting, isn’t it? Enjoy! Wow my friend, this is exactly the kind of flight I live for! You've got nerves of steel flying that close to the trees and the river. And what a stunning landscape, so different from what we've got over here. On top of that, those flips are seriously impressive. What drone are you running again? Bravo, I'm honestly jealous!
This weekend I'll be doing my own version of this in my corner of the world. That's what I love about our hobby and about this whole community: it lets us discover places that are so wildly different from one another.

My beautiful wife and I found a kool spot along side of the dirt road we were driving on. The spot looked so good, we decided to have our picnic there. A small meadow of sorts, lots of trees and open space with two sections of an old broken wooden fence along its border. We set up to eat beside the two old sections of wooden fence, ate our lunch and enjoyed the surroundings. After lunch, I set up my quad and burned a couple of packs. Sometimes we find that spot that just screams FULL SEND, “fly me”! Trail Head is one of those spots! Located at the base of a mountain, Trail Head looks like a green ski run. Rippin down the hill feels like a downhill run at the Olympics! When I was young, I blew out every joint in my body, living hard, playing hard. Enjoyed every minute! No one to blame but myself! Home on the long range, where the Antelope are as mean as hell and will attack your quad in a heart beat. Antelope are usually extremely skittish, really hard to sneak up on. Very hard to get any pictures of them, they are always on the run. But not this time - FAFO. I found out alright, that when a mamma and poppa Antelope have three calves with them, not so skittish. They saw my long range quad coming, and attacked it head on, well the mamma did anyway. She wasn’t having any of it. Needless to say, her desire to kill my quad, allowed me to get some great shots to share with you.
It was a nice calm morning, no air turbulence, so I was able fly smooth, without stabilization. I don’t like using stabilization, because the program crops at least 30% of the picture, loosing a lot of the wide angle view. Anyway, here it is. Enjoy! It’s the middle of February, and we have missed all of the super cold Polar Vortex’s so far, and the snow and ice storms that come with them. We are located just west of this cold Tempest! Our weather has been so good, it feels like Spring! In fact, it has been this way for over 6 weeks now! We truly are, in the “sweetspot”! Just finished burning 7 packs today. Yes, throttle is my friend. In the past year, I have learned how important throttle control is. The more I hit on the throttle, the more control I have over my quad. I feel like my quad is on a track or something. It feels like my quad has traction – in the air traction! FPV quads, are made to do the impossible. The technology is mind blowing! To stand, or sit in a chair, wearing a set of goggles, “remotely” flying a modified racing quad from the cockpit “virtually”, defying the laws of gravity while engaged in precision death defying acrobatic/ cinematic aerial maneuvers like a pro pilot! And, when I crash, I don’t die! How kool is that? That’s mind blowing for sure! Anyway, what I’m trying to do here, is improve my speed and accuracy. Thanks for watching. Enjoy!
