DRONE BUILDER 1.0 IS OFFICIALLY LIVE + huge DIYFPV updates
G day. I’m excited to announce the DIYFPV drone builder studio is officially live.
This interactive build studio lets you import your favourite FPV parts and create a virtual build. Looking back at our builder proof of concept vs what we have today fills me with such pride and hope for our hobby. (you can see the old concepts attatched to this post)
Features
- Import your parts into the build studio with 1-1 recreations from the community
-Alerts if there are any shorts or incorrect connections with your build
-Wiring assistant mode so you can see recommended ways to wire something up
-Learn mode - select any pad or pin. Learn its function, how it works and why it is important to your fpv build
-Share it with your friends, get feedback. Updates in real time
We also released a community build feature or as I like to call it the “build builder”. This is for people who want to not only create a wiring schematic of their build but also use it in a build guide. It will auto populate your components from your build, show the wiring schematic of how they go together and prompt you a few bits so making a full build guide is easier than ever.
New feature- the Part library is now available to all users. This is an easy way to inspect a part, check pinouts and mappings. Great for when you want to quickly check some technical aspects of a part you are about to build with. This started as an internal dev tool we were using to check components but it was so useful it is now open to all.
Stack and Multiboard support
The part builder now supports creating parts with multiple boards/stacks. Select add a new board when building your part and then just follow the normal build process. This means that when you import these parts into your drone builds in the studio it will automatically import both boards at once.

The thing we need help with now is people continuing to make parts in the part builder or it would be amazing to see some people publishing some build guides for others to learn from. If you have a build you love to fly, please do a write up and build guide for it here on diyfpv.

Finally found the time to fly some long range FPV. Drove out to a place called german gulch. And, of course, I picked the windiest day to do it! It was gusting so hard at times, I thought it was going to blow my quad right off of the mountain. All and all, I got some great shots. Needless to say, I had to stabilize my footage to make the flight work! There is a little glitch in the editing towards the end of the flight, it’s not a stabilization problem, it’s an editing problem. I couldn’t get the files to sync up properly. This quad hasn’t been in the air for quite a while. I have been too busy learning how to freestyle to give it the well earned air time that it deserves. We have a lot of meadows in Montana. Spring time, is when they look the best. Green and full of life! Many of our beautiful meadows are home to creeks and streams that feed many of our lakes. This meadow is one of them, feeding a small lake called Maney Lake.
This far north, it’s still early spring, the meadow is not in full bloom yet, but will be soon. My wife and I, were out for a drive when we came across this meadow. I had to stop and fly it! Why? Because I gotta!! First time flying this spot. A little cautious! No gps on this quad. I mixed some freestyle with some cinematic flying, attempting a “soft” rip. I don’t have any bando’s anywhere near where I live. So, I have to settle for clumps of trees instead. I have a lot of trees here. Pine trees mostly. They provide me with an endless variety of kool gaps and other obstacles to rip around.
I understand that trees have a history of being dicks sometimes, as they like to jump right out in front of your quad, grabbing it for no reason at all. You know what I’m talkin about. Damn those trees anyway! But, that’s all I have at the moment. I like to see how close that I can fly to them without getting bit! And, that’s what I’m attempting to in this video. Enjoy! In Montana, we have large open spaces to fly our quads. Things are really spread out here. A clump of trees here, and a clump of trees there, providing all the gaps and obstacles one could ask for.
Sometimes, the distance between obstacles can be hundreds of feet apart, giving one the opportunity to really punch the throttle, while preforming smooth deliberate cinematic rolls and flips, creating an almost slow motion effect. These cinematic moves are fun, and really do ad to the overall quality of the video, a cinematic and close proximity blend. A cinematic rip, so to speak! A cinerip! It’s the middle of February, and we have missed all of the super cold Polar Vortex’s so far, and the snow and ice storms that come with them. We are located just west of this cold Tempest!
