Made some DIY whoop gates today that I liked to share with DIY community.

It uses no glue, only straws, and you can assemble than in less than 2 min!!

Ofc you can make them bigger and in different shapes.

Ohhh haha the lense cap makes it look a lot further but I plan to print a new camera housing as the lense is right at the edge of the side panels

So i want to build an era 5 as my next drone and i dont know if i should make it elrs or tbs. Do you guys have any general build tips for me?

I would recommend ELRS because its cheaper. But u can decide what u want, the TBS might have alonger range.

Make sure you properly size the motors and props for the build weight. motor manufacturers generally include a chart with thrust at various power levels. Take Pull(g) at 100% throttle and multiply by 4x, then divide by total build weight with battery, this gives you the thrust to weight ratio. You want better than 6:1 for responsive flight characteristics. Make sure you look at proper orientations/positions for control link receivers and vtx, carbon fiber tends to mess with signals.

I have 2 Mobula8 HDZero models that have lost lenses. I bought a couple of the Runcam HD0 nano replacement lenses, but the focal length is WAY off. I turn maybe one or two threads of the lens to get some focus which is not near enough to really hold this lens on the camera. Any ideas?

It's possible the camera sensor is damaged or shifted. Did you lose the originals in a hard crash? A lot of people have issues refocusing lenses in general though. can you post a pic looking into the camera body where the lens screws in? Also, can you screw the new lens all the way down? It is possible youre seeing a false focus and the actual focal point is further in. If this is for the lux camera, it should screw about half way down to focus. you did order the correct lens for the lux.

This also depends on where you are focusing to in the real world. You want to make sure stuff thats 10-15 feet in front of you is in focus, not just stuff directly in front of the lens.

Yep, was focusing on 15’ or so. Will take some pictures to post here. I may need to try a deeper setting to see if your point on false focus is the case. These were not hard crashes, IMO. Leafy branches and grass.

What would give better responsiveness, a 3s 18650 jp30 pack, or a 4s one? This is for a 3in drone with 4600kv motors, and i am looking to do long range (5 to 10 km) but still dive down things. Or should i just stick with 4s lihv (an 850mah maybe)?

Note: I am using 350mw analog so anything over 5km is pushing the video to its limits, is it worth having a stupidly long flight time at the cost of a sluggish quad?

the smallest 18650 packs I could see were 3s-4s 3000mah at 160g-200g, Im assuming your dry build weight is around 200g, so you'd be looking at doubling the weight and having a much lower discharge rating. for "responsive" you want 7-8:1 thrust to weight, 400g auw is probably more like 4:1 at 100% throttle on those motors, which would probably kill the battery with the lower discharge rate.

I like my 4s 700-900mah lihv for 3" a lot!

My build is currently 156g, and a 3s 18650 pack with the jp30 cells would be around 145g, AUW would be around 300g. What do you think of this for flying up mountains etc? I have a 4s 720mah and i can get about 4.5km round trip flights on it at about 7mins flight time. What sort of flight times could

you get cruising with a 850mah?

@SundryTea Please dont take this personally, but there are some variables/contradictions here that make me want to suggest more experience before pushing long range and mountain diving. It is just a very risky type of flying and generally people that do what you’re looking for are building drones specifically designed for it. Your range on this build is going to be limited by factors other than the battery, like the 350mw vtx, anything over 1.5-2km should be pushing its safe limits. Flying out 5-10km and diving a mountain probably isn’t possible on that drone, no matter the battery you pick.

When someone says mountain diving and 5-10km, I think of a 5”-7” with a +1w vtx and 6s-8s batteries.

To answer the question directly, a higher capacity 4s li ion might give you a longer hover time, but the drone will no longer have responsiveness and might fall out of the sky. Especially if you have to keep it at a high throttle and overheat stuff or fry the battery. The batteries you’re trying to compare aren’t really comparable and will make the drone fly completely differently between li ion and lihv/po. You’re still doubling the weight with the li ion and a 6:1 ratio isn’t very good, plus you’d probably only be getting that at 100% throttle.

If you have money to burn, try the li ion, if not, stick with the lihv/po. The 850 mah should give you an extra 1-3 minutes and you’ll still have high C discharge and all that. Even between my 4s 720 mah and 850mah I notice some difference in flight characteristics.

If I’m wrong about any of this or missing some info, I apologize, just want people to fly safe and happy!

try some different props types as well, like bi blades. I should have asked what drone you have because there are other things you can try to get more range, even if it isn't diving the matterhorn. a higher wattage vtx can help with more range, but more importantly the penetration and reliability. nothing wrong with pushing the set ups you have, if you can look up the motor chart for your motors, you can calculate how much weight you can carry on different voltages and prop types.

@AurilFPV currently limited on range by battery, i have a homemade 5 turn helical antenna on my goggles (ev800d) and have flown to 2km on lipo. I like the prop idea and will give that a try, and also get a 850mah 4s, it should help a lot because my current 720mah lihv is a bit degraded. I have a really long antenna on the quad, so my signal is just as good when flying toward and away from myself. What are your thoughts on a 1100mah lipo?

Also the oscarliang.com motor chart recommends 450 to 850mah for freestyle for a 4s 3in triblade build with a lower kv motor (3000 to 4200, i have 4600)

As far as adding a higher power vtx goes I cant fit anything larger than the current zeus nano in the frame. I can increase video range with a 7 turn helical though, so i will probably make one of those.

I have a problem with my amps in my OSD. I’ve tried pretty much every combination of ADC sensor, ESC sensor, and virtual sensor, and my battery voltage is showing correctly. But when I turn on the ESC sensor under the motor tab, I get some crazy numbers, especially the 327.67A at idle. I saw someone else post about the same thing on Reddit, but nobody answered them, so I’m kind of stuck. Here’s a screenshot for reference(I used a 5s lipo for testing but that shouldn’t matter it’s the same thing with 6s lipos):

A year ago, i dropped my tiny whoop from 7/8 meters to concrete (i was new). After the crash, i had alot of problems. The gyro was freaking out, camera was so blurry, i couldn't takeoff. And also when i looked at my amps and volts, it showed crazy amount of numbers just like you said. I ended up changing the aio board(bc i had a lot of problems and one of them was broken gyro). After i changed the aio board, it was fixed as i expected. So maybe your ESC or FC is broken? But i am not sure. I hope this helps.

I think anywhere in betaflight is a config tab for the ampere meter but I don't really know...

I do not have clue either. I m slowly wrapping my head around it. I actually just wanted to learn more about how a flight controller and also a 4in1 esc works. But after some time I got more and more interested in trying to build one. Lets see if I can even make it work or if it will be a electronically noisy paperweight when done. 🤣

New here and to fpv... i wanna build a ducted drone but most recomendations are for a tp3... i have a nameless rc 412t 12amp 15 amp burst, 1204 5000kv motors, and 3s batteries... would love to be able to carry a cam either naked gopro or a gopro session, or a 360 cam. I been hearing stay in the 3 to 2.5 prop range but i just want a ducted to protect drone and wherever flown especially when indoors...

Pavo20 Pro I/II 2s-3s, you can just get the frame if it fits the components you have. No action cam for that build unfortunately. I know this might not help to say it, the DJI o4 is what you want if you're looking to fly cinematic with this type of setup. Even just a 2" drone can be difficult to fly indoors, I absolutely wouldn't be flying a 3" inside as a beginner, especially an under powered 3". Those components wont carry an action camera with ducts either and if they did, it would probably be pretty dangerous (a Runcam Thumb might work though). My GEPRC cinelog30 v3 doesn't even get an action cam and that's got a way better ratio, I also never fly that inside as it blows everything around and creates a lot of prop wash. With those motors, you're looking at around 460g of pull total, which means your total drone weight (with battery, cam, etc) should be max 80g-115g for a good ratio and acceptable flight characteristics. Hope this helps some and by all means experiment! That's a big part of the fun of all this (but it can get expensive). Have fun, good luck!!

For the dji action 2. It’s a bit on the heavy side as it was made for Bando/hard impacts ect. Kinda chunky. Kyle passé is making some very light designs that I think I’ll get to show off in the near future.

Well life happens. That's normal.. I didn't fly alot myself as I m having health issues currently. Which is terrible because the weather is mostly fantastic to go flying. I need to add a tiny ripper to be able to fly around my house 😂

Sorry about the health man. If you haven’t tried a tiny whoop they do well indoors. I’ve got a meteor 75 that does great. They usually aren’t to expensive if your on analog. 120.00 give or take a bit.

From an adapter to a pigtail, a pigtail soldered on to the board. I thought the board was broken but Im actually not so sure about the motor esc’s. Just hope that my build will be a success! :)
