Co-founder of CvilleFPV based in Charlottesville Virginia. I have been flying mini quads since early 2015 in the early days of Betaflight and FPV hardware. Mostly focused on acro and cine-type FPV flying with some FPV plane action mixed in. I am also a professional Real Estate Photographer in my area.

These AI generated images are getting so bad.

I suggest doing more of what you did near the end of the video, stay close to the ground practicing turns.  I don't suggest going so high and doing acro at this stage.  Its still possible you can get disorientated and crash (hard) into the street below.  Doing well so far, keep it up!

Freestyle:  O4 and O4 Pro.  While recording 4K 60fps does increase latency, not having to throw around the extra weight of a gopro makes everything more responsive.  Also actions cams are not cheap.

Racing: Honestly unless you have God-tier reflexes O4/O4Pro race mode is plenty fast as it comes within 6-10ms of HDzero, just make sure you get Flywoo's wide angle camera with the O4.  Otherwise just go with a cheap analog setup.

Walksnail lied that their Goggles X was modular in that you could swap out modules for future systems.  So I don't see how you can give them the upper hand there.  DJI doesn't over-promise, you get what you get...which is often a solid product.  DJI stuff for the most part has a 5 year lifecycle.  But even after 5 years its not like the goggles become useless, it just won't be able to run the latest and greatest-most likely.  The N3 goggles should be able to run the O5 system likely coming in 2027 or 2028.  O6 will come 2030-2031 if the cadence holds.

But tbh how much better can the Occusync system get?  I think image quality will not get much better, but perhaps latency will improve for O5.  Who knows for O6.

One thing is nearly certain, I don't see the Avatar system getting better anytime soon as its currently using an older chipset related to the DJI OG system released in 2019.  The story around it is complicated...and I just don't see an Avatar 2.0 coming around unless something huge is in development right now.

Though the pain point with DJI is O4 Pro availability, usually you have to preorder them and wait a few weeks.  I wish DJI would increase production.

@ErneG Now that I re-watched it I must say for having less than 10 packs my throttle control and turns look pretty darn good.  I don't think any simulators had dropped yet either.

My first build, third quadcopter (IRC Vortex was my first) this was in 2015.  Never flew quite right at low throttle...but the first release of airmode really helped.

@ErneG Back when I first started I ran this exact camera, I killed a few before switching to the Hero Session.  This was shot on it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0J1XZv0lXQ

I mean, until there is a stand-alone VTX I wouldn't recommend it to anybody.  If the latency isn't dropped with updates I don't know if I could recommend it at all unless its CHEAP.

Left a review on product XING X2306 2750kv Brushless Motor

So much power and durable AF!

I've run them for years, they've taken hits on concrete and ive never had to replace one because they still run like butter.

Left a review on product DJI O4 Air Unit Pro

The dream of flying through the lens of an HD action camera is here.

Back when I first started flying FPV, (2015, analog days) flying with the image quality of a Gopro was a pipe dream. The O4 Pro (and even the O3) not only made that dream a reality, it exceeded it...because lets be honest, the O4's image quality greatly exceeds any Gopro session 4 or 5 we were running at the time. Maybe even the Hero 5 Black. The penetration ability of the O4 system is unmatched bringing incredible levels of confidence even when flying in dense woods.

Left a review on product iFlight AOS 5 V5 5" Frame Kit

Good frame, good quility, no style points.

This frame does its job, seriously, it goes together easy and was designed by one of the best engineers in FPV. It just looks like an ugly duckling though sitting next to my other builds.

Get 4in1 with ELRS module of your choice.

While built-in ELRS is nice, whats also nice is having access to other protocols. Thats why i recommend 4in1. Plus you can upgrade external modules over time. I chose the Nomad module eliminating the need to choose 900mhz or 2.4ghz, you get both. Stock hall effect gimbals are fantastic, there isn't a true need to go all metal for most people. More radio than 99% of people will ever need. The touch screen is another huge upgrade over my last radio, it just makes things easier when setting up, especially planes.

Charger recommendations anybody? My 4 in 1 turned into a 3 in 1 years ago and now it'll soon be a 2 in 1... I should probably replace it soon. Something that has always bothered me about the charger is it only has a 1A discharge rate, making placing batteries into storage a chore. So a high discharge rate is a bonus.

I think its more important to write down the process and share over your tune settings.  Every quad is different, weight distribution, power, frame vibrations, IMU....etc.  So the tune settings on their own just isn't that useful.  Thats why I like Chris Rosser's guides and videos, as he shows the tuning process while teaching you at the same time.

Let's take flight together and elevate the world of FPV drones to new heights.
