Are you running 3s? The vid shows voltages around the 10-11 mark, so im assuming thats not 4s right...

RC Lawnmower Build

No, I'm not just building a 15" cinelifter. Just tossing around ideas for a diy rc lawnmower, instead of dropping 4k on one. Final product would probably end up costing a similar amount, but this way i get to learn stuff as well. I'm thinking this would either be running off of a 12v lead acid battery, along the lines of a car battery, or an 8s or 12s lithium pack. Probably looking at an 18" metal blade, and aiming for around 2500-3000 rpm. That gives a tip speed of ~140m/s, so no worries there. I could potentially go with 2 power systems, 8/12s for driving the blade and 12v for driving the wheels. I'm mainly just looking for potential parts recommendations here. Ideally I can run this using elrs, cause then I don't need a new radio, but I'm also aware that this is not exactly the intended use case for elrs. Also tossing up whether I go with a big powerful servo and rc car style setup for steering, or something more along the lines of a rack and pinion setup with a geared down brushless motor. Thanks for any input

He wanted good replacements Stu!

Jokes aside, if you're replacing darwinfpv motors, probably a good idea to get something better that doesn't have darwins rep for quality control. I've got the xing2 1404 4900kv motors on my 3" and they seem solid enough, but I've also heard since buying them that they're some of the lower performing 1404 4900kv motors out there. Take a look at some of chris rossers motor comparision vids, they're good @AlmondKing

Yeah, 3d modelling is hard until you crack it, then its still hard but it makes sense. Nice quality prints as well. I'd suggest making sure the motor screws aren't clamping down on the tpu though, soft mounted motors aren't amazing. You may lose a guard every now and again, but its better than losing a motor

Yep, most of those 1.6"-2.5" betafpv whoops are a good idea, they all seem to be fairly solid and simple. Watch some yt reviews on them and some flight footage, see what you like

Ive had m4 nuts vibrate off of matching bolts after being cranked down, simply with small brushed hobby motors. Get some blue loctite and apply it on the threads of your screws, and crank them down. That should hold them in. Or you can go fancy and buy some standoffs with nylock inserts in them, thatd also do it. But yeah darwinfpv is known for being fairly sub par

Eh, on paper binocular goggles are better than box goggles, but also a good set of box goggles will often feel better than a bad set of binocular goggles, especially with a topstrap. But its fair enough if you're set on not going down the hdz route, between walksnail and dji you can usually get close to most of the hdz advantages

HDZero boxpro and walksnail vrx! The boxpros have analog and hdz built in, and a hdmi in port so you can slap a vrx on it as well. Should also be a similar price to those options. You can also get hdz whoops later on or run hdz on your larger quads

I personally think 3" is good to start off with, as long as you're planning on building instead of buying a prebuilt. I started with a 3" volador, (still my only quad btw) and its got enough power to fly outside really easily, but its still small enough that it doesn't sound like a small child being thrown through the air. If you plan to go bnf though, 65 or 75mm is probably best

I believe the hdzero boxpros also have a hdmi port, I'm not up to date on how much they cost but they're good value for the money

I'd have a look at boat prop development, I think that you may find a good starting point there. They're larger scale so small innefficiences and vibrations are noticed more, and have been developed and messed with a lot more as well.

Those motors look absurd on the 3" lmfao! Gonna be fast though. What motors are they, I'm assuming 6s?

Can relate, thats my biggest problem with the 15-20 minute life on my dji mini 2! Average temperature where I am is usually 10 degrees celsius, so unless I've got my good gloves on I can't stand it

Even just having 2 tpu plates stick out infront of it would help massively, only has to be a couple mm's. Good luck with it

Looks great man, I'm yet to get my vx3 build up and running but I'm looking forward to it. Just a suggestion, see if theres another hole on the camera mounting plates that you can put the camera on. Having it sticking out like that is likely to damage it in a crash.

@Uri-Nator87 On 2450kv motors, almost definetely 6s. Just be sure that your stack can handle 6s

Probably just try a couple of different sized 6s batts, from a reputable brand like tattu or gnb or something. Maybe something 600-1000mah, just see what combination of weight and flight time you prefer.
