I think my drone has a vibration issue. (it could be the props 51477 props on a QAV-S 5" frame). I am waiting on some new slightly smaller 5.0" props hopefully it fixes the issue.

Anyone else using the QAV-S 5" quad, I am having an issue with the Gemfan 51477 props just barely touching the battery straps, if the battery is not perfectly aligned... do i need some shorter props?

If anyone is interested, I built a new tool because the existing stick overlay utilities didn’t quite fit my needs:

https://github.com/codemonkey76/sticks-overlay

It uses your Blackbox log to create a MOV file with a transparent background. You can then import it into your preferred video editor, place it in a layer above your footage, and resize or reposition it as desired.

Here is a usage example:

```bash
stickoverlay btfl_001.bbl \
--fps 59.94 \
--mode 2 \
--trail --trail-decay 0.9 --trail-alpha 0.5 --trail-color FFFFFF \
--corner-radius 18 \
--color-fill 00000080 \
--line-width 10 --dot-radius 10 \
--codec qtrle \
--out ~/overlays \
--invert-yaw
```

In the first video I uploaded using this tool, the yaw was inverted. Using `--invert-yaw` fixes the issue, but I didn’t notice until after posting. Here is a new flight with the correct stick positions.

If you want to record longer Blackbox logs for this purpose, just only record the stick commands, and use the slowest logging rate:

Thanks for the tip! Took it seriously and checked — motors are cool after 1 pack (i am waiting on more batteries) and bidir DShot telemetry is clean, so the RPM filter's doing its job. It is flying well, better than my Archetype, so i'm happy with the tune so far, i'll monitor motor temps though thanks for the heads up.

Does anyone have any resources for someone who can do TPU printing for me, or can advise me on how to improve my model, I suck at 3D modelling and always struggle printing TPU. Here is the model:

My part broke on first flight and i didn't even land hard.

I was stoked to see my post (or at least a reply of my post) with the issue i was having with the FC in your video this morning (missed the live, but watched the vod). Really looking forward to using the builder.

It definately made the solder flow better. I tried with and without... especially when i was trying to remelt the solder for the large battery pads, it wasn't seeming to melt, and added a bit of flux, and it worked much better.

Found another nice park to fly at, loads of trees and obstacles... had to wait for a break in the rain.

A lot of talk about AI tools of late, i had to make my own today. I had a crash which corrupted a video file and i really wanted to recover it, so used Crush and AI agent tool using Claude Sonnet 4.6 to fix my corrupt video file. This is the resulting project. Which worked on my file.

Here is a snippet from the Video i wanted to save.

I did ask Claude AI that very question and it told me not to, specifically said this:

No — don't do that. With Dynamic Idle active, setting a non-zero motor_idle_percent will cause conflicts.

What happens if you set both

  • Dynamic Idle is trying to actively manage RPM using telemetry
  • A non-zero static idle is a fixed floor fighting against it
  • They'll compete with each other — you can get motor twitching, uneven spin-up, and potentially worse desync behavior than what you have now

You don't need it anyway

With bidirectional DSHOT, Dynamic Idle guarantees all 4 motors spin on arm — that's literally its job. It reads actual RPM from each motor individually and corrects any that are lagging. Once you drop dyn_idle_min_rpm to 26, all 4 will spin cleanly on arm without needing a static idle as a safety net.

The only time you'd use motor_idle_percent

  • When Dynamic Idle is disabled
  • On older ESCs that don't support bidirectional DSHOT
  • As a fallback if you're having ESC compatibility issues

Let's take flight together and elevate the world of FPV drones to new heights.
