Starting My FPV Journey with DJI O4 Pro
So I joined the evil train for now. As I am just getting into FPV and building my first drone. It will be used mostly for cinematic and hopefully smooth flying freestyle. I went with the 04 pro. The more I researched Caddix. I realize I was making more excuses to buy them. And the main one being that I just hate DJI. But for now I just need to learn and this gave me less of a handful to begin with. Hope I don’t get looked down on. Hopefully it’s temporary. Have fun all!

Your first drone will not fly smooth or cinematic for a long time due to your skill. And you will crash it learning. Sell your morality away to dji if you want, but wait until it makes financial sense at least.

@Funk hopefully it won’t take too long. But true. Hopefully sim, whoop, and consumer drone time will knock some of the mistakes down a notch. 🤞🏻

I have analog for a whoop. But still new and can’t fly it well in the house. Also do t want to carry a camera. Just want to fly and get cool footage. Hopefully.

@Thebigbilltheory enjoy your build, but just keep flying that whoop. They are the ultimate training device. Fly outside as much as you can when it's not windy. Are you flying in acro mode or horizon? If you're just trying to do acro, get better with horizon first - folks will say it builds bad habits but I just disagree. I think angle mode only for beginners makes them quit before they have a chance. Especially if you aren't going to actually put a bunch of time into the sim. Fly horizon line of sight indoors to get used to successfully maneuvering in tight quarters before you put the goggles on. Go with acro when you can get outside and are feeling confident. Your whoop will save you so much pain, money, and time in the future when you start getting more expensive stuff. I'm not saying this is your mindset, but if it is, HD will not make you fly better, its helpful but really it just makes it nicer. Hopefully this come off as friendly advice and not an attack. Enjoy flying and don't give up!

@drmofsd thanks for the tips. Honestly I haven’t messed with the settings much. I believe it’s in angle mode. But I have the DJI air for learning the simple movements. Got started just wanting to take cool pics. But I got my pilots license and want to do more fun things on site. Again. Very much appreciate the help and advice!

@Thebigbilltheory sorry I kept saying angle and I meant acro. If you're flying angle, try horizon. It gives you a bit more freedom of movement. if you're using betaflight go to the modes tab and you'll see horizon. Set it up on the same aux as acro and angle mode in a different switch position and then set up the switch on your radio.

Whatever you choose have fun! Share some cool flights, or places you fly. It’s all in good fun! I will say get extra props and a few batteries when you can. Those go quick!

ur just not gona get anything smooth in your first months.... mabye even years... depending on how much time u put into it... also.... I presonally was also at a dilema... I went with walksnail... because it's a great middle ground and their latest units like the moonlight kit rival dji O3 with being better a lot of the time.... and they have a lot more options ..... even now there are rummors about a new system rivaling the O4.... if you want to go with the dji set it and forget it style.... I mean go for it... but you will def get locked down by it.... (imo)

To be fair I think I was too. So all good. I was flying acro. I went and looked. I do have a switch bound to horizon mode to help stabilize if I got too unstable. Again. Thank you! It was good of you to take the time to help a noob.

I was happy to read all that. I had come to the conclusion I needed to master acro mode right away. Knowing me the way I do, I could see abject failure and quitting on the horizon. Now I have a bit more hope I'm going to keep trying.

As I just recently I spent a decent amount of time in the sim and though it does translate nicely to the drone there's still a long way to go.
I don't think there's a right or wrong path to choose when it comes to vtx. Alot of stuff and ppl speak for both systems. I think dji made a good beginner approach with the cheaper goggles as well as the "o4 lite"
