Is This FPV Pack Suitable for Beginners? Seeking Advice

Am I missing something? Is this a good pack for a beginner?

Hi guys, I want to finally get into FPV after a long time loving drones.

I´ve build a list of things I am planning to buy but I would like to double check with people that already are in the community if I am missing something that I must buy or if what I´ve chosen is any good (at least to start):

Notes: I am from Europe, I would like to go with digital 100% - specially the O4 because I really like what they´ve added compared to the O3 - and my budget is around 1100€.

- Iflight Nazgul ECO O4 ELRS 2.4 (preorder) - 580,88€

- RM Pocket Crush LBT ELRS - 70€

- DJI Goggles N3 - 269€

- CNHL 6S 1300mah 130C - 25€ x 2

- CNHL 4S 1300mah 130C - 20€ x 2 - to rip some less punchy packs at the beginning.

- ISDT 608AC - 47,29€

- Tools and soldering station I already have.

Also something maybe worth adding is that I´ve already flown some cheap chinese drone that my mom once gifted me for Xmas. Gave it a hell of a beating taking it to the extreme (what it was capable of xd) and even having to repair and solder myself some stuff. I am not confident enough to build one from scratch though, so I prefer lo learn to fix than to break it without even flying it xd.

I also already have a decent sim that I bought when I got interested in FPV long time ago, so I will be also putting hours into it to regain muscle memory in how to fly drones.

I would recommend analog for a beginner, but that’s not a bad setup overall

I´ve considered analog but I´m willing to take the risks for the extra quality and I can thankfully afford the extra money that digital costs. And thanks!

That's a great list @tixu . I'd suggest getting more batteries, and if your budgeting you should include added cost of special delivery service for your batteries.

That'll eat into your budget. As you're a novice a I'd steer you to something smaller to get going, and get building/repairing.

If you can get a good 4s quad it'll free up your budget for more and cheaper batteries - less than half price of 6s - cheaper frames, spares /repairs etc

You don't need to buy both 4s and 6s for the one quad to slow you down. There are a few settings in BF configurator that will do that for you.ie if you did buy 6s you can limit it to 4s and do other stuff with your throttle feel.

You'll crash repeatedly...if you're not crashing you're not trying!! Keep that in mind.

Don't worry about starting building. You'll make mistakes just like the rest of us.

It's all a big learning process.

We build , fly , break , repeat.

Oh yeh, also keep in mind that you'll need two quads on the go to stay airbourne/not grounded by repairs...waiting for parts deliveries etc.

What do you mean by a 4s quad? Do you mean a smaller one? Like 3,5 inches. Or do you mean to go only with 4s batteries in a 5 inch?

@tixu I recommend 3.5" freestyle quad on a 4s 850mAh battery. I've got digital 5" builds but I love my two 3.5" GEPRC builds so much I moved a 4" Flywoo onto a Volador 3.5" frame. Great sub 250g fun.

@GreenthumbFPV got it! I've been looking into 3.5" and the issue is that I really want to go digital and I can't find any O4 bnf builds yet.

I would really like something with the O4 because not only that would make me able to buy the N3 goggles which are waay cheaper (at least in my country) than the normal 3 goggles or even the 2s. The O4 also has an insane camera already built in, which would add another +250€ for a GoPro if I go walksnail or hdzero if I don't go with DJI.

I've been thinking about it and it's basically a tradeoff between all of them.

If there is a 3.5" where I can put an O4, that would be great.

The best 3.5" digital that I've found is the Crux 35, but that would mean that I would have to buy the goggles 2, which are not only way more expensive than the N3 but also lack some functions if I ever jump to an O4 drone.

So yeah, sorry for all the text, but I'm really unsure since I wouldn't mind a 3.5" but I can't find one that fits my wants.

Looks like a good list. My first quad was a nazgul f5 v2 with O3 / goggles 3 with a pocket (ELRS) for TX, and an isdt Air 8. I bought four 6S batteries and then another club member sold me another 6,

It's been faultless, and it's certainly not holding me back in any way

If your learning on 5” and just don’t wanna fly a whoop or go on the sim( which is recommend doing both) find an empty field or big empty car lot. Buy lots of props…. And keep it away from your self as well. Stay safe to you and everyone and everything around you. They are high velocity “ blenders”. I’d suggest sim then a nice whoop. Have fun, be safe.

Further to @TeleportFpv if you're in Europe you'll need to be well away from uninvolved people and property to fly that size of quad. Don't give moaners ammo for conflict. If you've got a garden it needs to be Bardwells size of property or you'll run out of room very fast with a 6s 5".

The risk to property and people is very high compared to starting on 1.6" or 3.5". The difference in inertia is huge. Approx 200g for 3.5" to approx 800g for 6s 5".

Ppl notice a 5", you get away with 3.5" in parks, and just about anywhere with tiny whoops. They teach you proximity flying with lower powered quad with low risk of injury, or damage to property...and they're fraction of cost so you can afford to maintain more than one.

@GreenthumbFPV @TeleportFPV thankfully I have some open areas near my house where no one goes and I can go there. I know the jump in power is big and I wouldn't mind a 3" but I can't find one where I can put an O4 system.

Regulations are not that complicated in my country, so I could get my drone easily registered and that would be almost all I need to do.

And I will be practicing on a sim, already have one and I've downloaded it again.

I'd hold off. Chinese New Year just been and they'll prob drop new products for spring. Guaranteed there'll be 3.5 inch with 04 available from GEPRC etc.

Furthermore ....if you're in EU , and USA riles China too much with these daft tariffs (soz even us too) then look forward to cheaper gear in Europe.

With G3 available, G2 price will drop too.

I started on analogue and built myself up to digital five inch builds, and so glad I missed the GoPro days with 03 arriving. Go pros are defunct with 03 and 04 on the scene

Interesting point tbh. I've already ordered the radio and charger since those will be the same no matter what.

So I guess waiting a bit to order while I practice in the sim with the radio might be a good call. I'm just trying to gather as much information rn, tbh. So that when I decide what to buy, it's a good decision.
