Man, what do you all think about that “lite” 04? Looks good, but like few others say… it’s either going to monopolize the industry or force innovation… hopefully for the latter.
I'd bet on the latter. I feel like the O4 Lite is DJI's response to the Walksnail Avatar HD Mini 1s. The DJI O4 lite looks to be superior in way (except weight 7.8g vs 10g).
I don't think walksnail stands a chance, they never really did honestly. Our best bet is for eventually for open-source to EXPLODE. other than that dji is the best.
@LouisXVIIII totally agree that an open-source solution with capabilities on par with DJI or Walksnail would be amazing. Right now, Walksnail goggles do offer a more budget-friendly entry point—under $300—which is enticing for those just getting into digital FPV. If an open-source system ever catches up, I’d be all over it. For now, though, I’m using DJI.
Walksnail Avatar GT plus their external VRX on a Tripod with big Antennas is something DJI cannot compete against. There is no DJI System giving you a 50+km Range, no Goggles with HDMI-IN, no HDMI-Out. So Walksnail indeed has reason to exist.
And yes, going Open Source with the Firmware would most likely give us the best available System very quick, just think about ExpressLRS :-)
@FPVZaphod there really aren't a lot of people doing that kind of long range, and at regulations get worse, there will be less. On top of that, many long range pilots use analog. While I don't have any experience, I'm pretty sure analog is king for long range.
@LouisXVIII There are - just not in the usually know places. We hide a bit more, because the legal shade of grey of our flights is WAY darker than usual copter flights :-) And yes, for the crazy 2 figure flights currently you 1.3 analog, but digital ist not that far behind. A proper Walksnail Groundstation, or even OpenHD with 2W TX and Sat Dish on the Ground also goes nearly 100km.
I hope it pushes for innovation but I feel DJI is attempting to monopolize the drone world. I don’t feel it will be long before there are more ways for them to control builds as they do their prebuilts. The whole reason is building a drone is to get away from DJI software. I feel they will get everyone hooked then flip the switch on how to update, connections, way to control their products. 🤞🏻🤞🏻
Dji instantly means I'm not gonna buy it. Too many controversies and I'm not a fan of their closed systems. They just don't seem to be very hobbyist friendly. That being said I'm excited to see how walksnail and hdzero respond to this.
