DJI N3 goggles review.
If you are thinking of jumping into FPV or trying digital for the first time here is my review of the DJI N3. Currently when searching on https://www.diyfpv.com/catalog/dji-goggles-n3 they are around $230. Normally i do video reviews but not everyone wants to watch a video and might prefer reading. So i wrote this up for them.
Pros
- Amazing value if you want to try digital without breaking the bank
- Big large bright screen
- supports race mode and better channel options (so you can fly with multiple pilots)
- THE BEST FOCUS POINT I have ever had on a box goggle - ZERO eye strain which is surprising for a box goggle.
- Sits nicely on the face. If you have a big head/ big nose, like myself. The N3 goggles sit really well. Even though they are heavier than the walksnail Goggles L. The DJI sits better and is just more comfortable.
- easy to adjust, head strap works well
- can not support race mode
Blocks out a lot of outside light.
Cons-
- Internal battery means that to fly you are going to need a USB charger once your headset goes flat. Also when your batteries eventually degrade is there any easy option for replacement or do you need to buy a new goggle
- Currently only works with the new 04 air units (no 03 support)
- The screens are only 60hz but the airunits can go up to 100 FPS so you are leaving features on the table. I think the screens should have been 100 FPV
- You need to register for them to work fully
- The 04 air units seem fragile and don't fit with normal camera mounts
Final notes.
Personally I really like the goggles themselves. I think they work well and do what they say on the tin. A lot of people say to get the goggles 3 instead BUT that is double the price. For the money I believe the N3 goggle is a great digital choice. Its a budget way to get into digital FPV. The screens look great and it looks set to be future proofed with what 04 units bring us.
Would I upgrade to this If I already had a digital option? No. save your money. If you already have walksnail or DJI and 03 air units I do not believe there is any meaningful reason for most pilots to then jump over to the N3. Maybe the channel control and frequency but unless you are struggling with flying with other pilots you should save your money.
Bugs I found - my DJI 04 lite would not record on board until I manually dropped a picture on to the drive using my pc (super strange)
The 5 way button sometimes glitches out and gets stuck on the upper right corner instead of clicking back to center.
I did do a video review with a bit more detail if people are interested https://youtu.be/xQEyMgRcwaM
Happy flying
