GPS Not Finding Satellites After Installation - Help Needed
I have a question about GPS. I just finished installing a GPS on my quad and it locked 9 seats while plugged in to my laptop but when I plug a battery in and connect to my goggles it won't find any satellites. Any idea why it would that?
Maybe your VTX is killing your GPS reception. When the quad is powered from USB, the VTX is usually off or in low-power mode, so the GPS can lock satellites. As soon as you plug in a LiPo, the VTX goes full power and can interfere with the GPS signal, especially if it’s mounted close by.
These small GPS units are very sensitive to any electrical interference. With that in mined, mounting location is very important. Generally you want to mount the module as far away as possible from anything electrical. Especially anything that transmits. (🤔 Everything is electrical. ) So after installing a few of these, the best location, generally ends up being on the top plate in between the camera and the flight control stack. If that's not possible, even on top of the battery secured with the battery strap might be worth considering. Realizing there is no perfect location to mount these things. The objective ends up being to get just enough sats for your return to home and or position hold working properly and consistently. Also keep in mind some units that don't work on one build might mysteriously work just fine on another. Finally, chances of getting a faulty unit is high. After you tried every idea to get it working and nothing seems to work, it probably needs to be replaced. Hope this is helpful.
I suspect the vtx is too close. I couldn't figure out setting up Pit, I would turn it on in modes and under the vtx setup and I would save but it would turn off under the vtx settings. I'll try relocating the GPS. And yes it is the tiny GPS. Thanks for all the help.
