G'day
What is the best FPV goggle of 2025?
A comparison for high end Digital FPV Goggles in 2025. I made a video https://youtu.be/cH2IEHryjGQ but appreciate that not everyone has time or even wants a video. This is my thoughts, pros and cons on each of the three main systems flagship goggle (DJI goggle 3, HDzero FPV goggle and walksnail avatar X) The video also has a section on openIPC. I hope it helps you get the right goggle for you and your flying style. Check the image here for the rankings /10
DJI Goggle 3 thoughts
A great goggle with easily the best image. Great for all types of flying. Stocked all over the worked. Lots of BNF drones come already built with DJI airunits inside. What really makes me like these now in 2025 is that with the o4 airunits we have so many more options. We have the amazing video of the o4 pro but the o4 lite allows us to build DJI drones down even at the 2inch and 2s level and still have an amazing time. Packs down in a small form factor. My recommendation for 90% of pilots if they want the best goggle for everyday flying, freestyle and the ability to turn on racemode on the off chance they go to a race meet up.
Walksnail Avatar x thoughts
I flew this goggle more than any other goggle in 2024. Its biggest issue right now is that DJI with the new 04 airunits is offering bascially the same thing but better. The walksnail system still IMO has a better 1s vtx and HDMI out is great if you want to run your feed to another location. They are a good choice for long range digital pilots who still want a beautiful image (just not as good as DJI). You can get these to work with gimbal and repeater systems as well but that is a very select number or pilots. Recommended if long range is your priority. also the cheapest system
HDzero goggle thoughts
100% for racing or whoop pilots. Everyone else is better suited with either system above. So lets talk about the good first. lots of interface options, 10/10 latency. However this systems biggest problems are 1. they are significantly more expensive vs walksnail or DJi and 2. the image. IMO it is barely better than good analog. my 6.5 in the above table is based on a mix of my experiences but also on the best footage i could find online show casing its visuals. I do not recommend this sytem to most pilots. the image is simply sub par especially now we have the dji04 pro. Think watching a vhs tape vs blu ray movie. recommended only for pure racing pilots or people who want a digital whoop.
OPEN IPC
I do not have too much experience with open IPC to comfortably rank it in the table above. It is early days for the system but it is looking promising. The best video I have seen is probably 7.5 in terms of video quality. The price may be cheaper and being open means we can have lots of companies trying new thigns with it. Open IPC is recommended for piltos who like learning about new tech and want to try things and help develop the system. Not suited for most pilots but this is changing very quickly and it is becoming more user firendly each day.
Final Notes
I just want to really make this part clear. "It's not about having the best gear. its about having the best time" if you have a system and you love it that is awesome. You know your flying and what you like best. This is just my $0.02c. You do not need to upgrade from what you have, if you are having fun then that is all that matters. Nothing is wrong with your system and just because one system ranked better in this random aussie guys reddit post doesnt make your system any less fun.
I would also like to note that I do not care which system you fly. I just care that you have a great time flying. I have zero alligence to any comany and have flown so many different goggles over the last 10 years as my daily drivers not just the popular ones. I think I was one of the only people in the world to fly the good old aomways as my main back in the day when 90% of the world flew fatshark. then i moved to skyzone when no once even knew about them. I flew walksnail last year as my main but now feel DJI has the edge with the o4 airunits. The point is that I have tried to provide some info here that is loyal to the FPV community and not to the companies. The links in my video on this are also affiliate free.
Side note: I have stayed away from political stuff when ranking any of these. how the companies act, use our data/change prices regarding tarrifs etc is not taking into account. This was on a user flying experience alone.
Have a great day. Would love to know your experiences and im always open to learn more about these systems. if you have some open ipc flights I could learn from, or good looking HD zero or long range DJI that beats walksnail please can you DM me.
happy flying
