they should all have the same durability, just different kv motors. lower kv will be easier to learn on, fly inside, and have longer flight times. Higher kv will do a bit better with outdoor and freestyle. if you are in the north, I would take into consideration that it's about to be winter which makes it harder/more expensive to fly outdoors. Personally I got a meteor75 as my first whoop during winter a couple years ago and wish id have gotten a 65, Id have probably gotten a lot better a lot faster. you can see my recent video if you are skeptical about a 65mm doing freestyle.

@danieI no problem, I just looked at the pic again and thought I should mention that advice of adding more solder is for more fresh stuff, you probably dont want more solder on those wires until you get some of it off. you can still rework it as is with heat and flux, but thats risky for creating bridges. whichever way youre more comfortable with.

@danieI this is pretty common, you just aren't getting them fully attached in the first place. you need more heat/flux to fully melt/incorporate the solder onto the pad like @John35588 said. they should look like nice shiny, conformal blobs, but you can see the shadows between the wires and pads where the solder hasn't fully incorporated onto the pad. try preheating the pads a little more and adding a bit more solder to the pads and saturate the wires a bit more before you join them.

Heads up, this is a wall of text, but I really hope it helps save someone money.

I have to be honest with you guys, I have a major personality flaw that compels me to try to help people if I think I can. The thing is, sometimes that gets annoying, like if Im commenting on all the posts here or if I call out something someone you like does. Hopefully this isnt too annoying.

Before I get into it, this isnt about Stew at all, it is an industry wide problem. This isnt a commentary on these people as people, sometimes “useful fools” get taken advantage of by others through no fault of their own (until it becomes a recognized pattern). This seems to have happened with someone I used to watch a lot and that helped me get into fpv. They have been back in my feed again and today they released a video that looks pretty positive on the surface, but all I see is them taking advantage of their audience.

A little bit about YouTube, there are a lot of ways to make money on the site, most of them involve advertising and sales commissions, which isnt inherently wrong. After the recent changes to the site, the reports Im seeing are claiming that for an individual to do YouTube full time, with low level sponsorships, they now need around 250k- 500k subs. So if someone is using YouTube to support a family, with a +2500sqft house, and has under 100k subs, they are making a bulk of their money from something else. If their description of each video is literally full of referral links and +90% of their content is product showcases presented as reviews, then their money is likely coming from your pocket in the form of secondary ad money and sales commissions.

Now if someone has a patreon, that money is still coming directly from you, but ive noticed the people that specialize in product showcases dont advertise patreons very much. The difference isnt necessarily in the amount of money you give them, it’s what you get in exchange for the money. If you watch the product showcasers, they really aren’t honest in the long run. Sure there has to be the token criticism of the product so people watch, but pay attention to what they say in their future videos. A lot of times they end up contradicting themselves because they are selling you products, not information.

So, if someone makes videos about a controversial topic, like latency, to sell a new/unproven system to beginners and farms engagement from it by saying it doesnt matter, that might be a red flag. HOWEVER, there is a genuine argument that beginners shouldn’t care about latency and need encouragement to spend this much money. BUT if they do all that and their next video is promoting racing, thats 100% a giant red flag. Its like this:

Step 1: promote new high latency, unproven system using drama and personal insecurities of your audience, audience "defends you", buys the new system with your links, profit.

Step 2: wait a week or so for the drama to die down, hope people move on

Step 3: promote beloved community racing event, dont address the recent controversy directly or use analog for the video. Audience becomes energized about a fresh topic.

Step 4: audience races for a week or two and realize latency, penetration, etc matters, so you make a new video and promote the same company’s low latency analog system. Second profit.

The company wins, the YouTuber wins, but the audience is either stuck with 2 low budget systems or they just lose all their races and get discouraged. Ultimately the outcome of this series of videos will be unnecessary frustration for at least a portion of the audience and end up doing the exact opposite of what the YouTuber originally intended.

But this isnt even the first time this YouTuber has done something like this recently. the first thing that put them back in my feed was a "leak" for a supposedly amazing drone that got people amped for weeks before its release. Then that drone ended up being one of the most anti consumer/anti repair/pro planned obsolescence fpv drones I have ever seen.

So in summary, there isnt anything wrong with having "a favorite host on the Shopping Channel," just try to keep in mind the differences between that type of person who is primarily extracting value from our community and someone who is genuinely doing reviews, aggregating information and adding value back into the community.

Thanks for reading!

haha thats awesome!!

if wind is going to be an issue over winter, switching to a frame without guards/ducts will help reduce how much you get blown around (I think its a pretty big difference personally)

sounds a lot like shredded bearings. normally this happening on 2 motors on the same side indicates a pretty bad crash, which is info you should include in troubleshooting if it happened. this also explains why you are getting prop wash and has nothing to do with pid tunes or how the drone comes from the factory. motors should not feel "wobbly" at all, that is a problem. it being able to technically fly and it being a good idea to fly are 2 different things. its really dangerous to throttle up like that on a bench with props on, flipping it over doesnt matter, btw.

oh man "mall walkers", now thats something I havent heard in a long time lol. ours had little distance markers in the plant areas so they knew how far they'd gone. great practice spot!

@w4s1m yes, desoldering the motor plugs to remove them is a pain because the pins get stuck.

it comes pre-tuned, so there is probably something else wrong if you are getting prop wash.

can you upload a picture of the pin/rod? im not 100% sure what youre talking about, its pretty hard to get a pin to come out unless something happens. desoldering motor plugs is a huge pain.

asked K2 in his comments to expand further on his process, here is the reply, solid advice!

"No video planned on this topic, but here are the details: I shot this using an ND 16 filter. Regarding LUTs, I stepped away from them because they don't help you learn how color grading actually works. Moving to DaVinci Resolve and putting in a solid year of practicing on multiple videos a week made all the difference. No shortcut: just consistent practice. Appreciate the support! "

its not so bad landing on concrete, when I started, I would go to the landing area and hover for an extra few seconds and then just lower the throttle slowly. this is actually part of the air mode vs not air mode debate because the props spinning sometimes causes bouncing on hard surfaces if you come in too hot.

people also buy landing pads, but I just got a cheap little door rug/mat that rolls up for like $3 and put that down. mostly use it for taking off on grass now, but it'd definitely help with landing on concrete

you have to use nd filters and luts, etc. its a lot of editing, but still pretty impressive for such a small drone

that is definitely a good idea!! we have something like that for so many other things, but not fpv that im aware of.

@Ironclad_8260  you dont have to buy it all at once. get the radio and sim first so you can practice. or get one of the $100-$200 rtf kits and upgrade. most of the people ive talked to here have worked pretty hard to afford this stuff and built up their kits. I literally feed my pets better than me when I run out of food to cut all the costs I can to afford this and still have to work for other people while trying to start my business. get an appropriate local job and start saving, thats the only way, everyone is dealing with the same high prices and lack of money you are.

acro is a flight mode, air is a stabilization feature, its easy to get confused as they are sort of similar.

but yes, EVERYONE SWITCH TO ACRO RIGHT NOW, you dont have to keep it that way, but you should always have the ability to switch to/from it and should practice with it as much as you are comfortable. Angle and Horizon are great to learn, once you are on Acro, you will realize how much less control they give you.
