Best Budget FPV Drone Options for Beginners
Hey Everyone!
I am very new to the FPV community, and I am just starting to get sim time. I feel in love with the hobby on first sight and really want to get into it.
Unfortunately... I'm broke.
I've done a lot of research on what drone I should get or even if I should build my own, but I kind of just got lost and overwhelmed by all the choices.
Here I few things I would want in my ideal FPV drone:
-budget friendly (no DJI)
-3.5 - 5 inch Tiny whoops don't really excite me, but maybe you can persuade me otherwise.
-Can carry an action cam
-dead-cat (I don't really like the look of the props on the screen)
-Can take an absolute beating
-Cheap replacement parts
-An all round nice drone
If you have any suggestions of a drone or a setup, please let me know! I am desperately lost.

check out darwin fpv they have some budget bnf kwads i would get the DarwinFPV BabyApe Ⅱ Freestyle FPV Drone its a 3.5 in (4 to6s)
(im assuming u want freestyle) its not a deadcat frame but if u are using a action camera it shouldn't show on there as for a action camera i have a runcam thumb 2 that is a good budget one

The first thing i would look into is getting some used gear if you can find some available near you (facebook marketplace maybe?). That was how I got my first quad (a mobula8) with spare parts, goggles, remote etc. I have a Runcam thumb pro w and it works, but i think the thumb2 is a significant upgrade and fits well on my 3in. I wouldnt recommend getting an action camera to start, though, but having it as an option for the future is a good idea. You will probably also need some equipment as well (soldering iron etc) for building/repairs. Oscar Liang has really good documentation on a lot of prebuilt stuff, and loads of tutorials for getting set up, and good product recommendations.

@Ironclad_8260 Unfortunately there is no feedback system as of yet so its at your own risk. I have bought something off someone on here and it all panned out in the end. Use PayPal as the middle man, and make sure its not set as a "Family or Friends" Transaction otherwise its non-reversable.

@Ironclad_8260 I have never bought anything off this platform, but i wouldn't recommend buying anything off marketplace unless you can meet up in person, and look at what you're buying before you buy it.
I also think a tiny whoop is by far the best option for cheap fpv because of the durability.
You wont end up needing super expensive spare parts, if you break the whoop at all. I have had a mobula 8 for a year now, and i still find it more fun than my 3in because i am never worried about crashing it.

Save up your money and buy a controller right away! With that you can fly in sims including the free one we have here and you can get some practice while your saving up for the rest! Have a look at these!

I recommend looking at the Walksnail platform for a buget friendly fantastic quality lineup what you can evolve with and use!
Very affordable and your out and flying for less than 400usd. That's amazing IMO.
If you NEED that bigger and dead cat layout, then a o4 Pro PNP (plug and play) that is pre-wired for ELRS is ideal so all you need to do is slap a air unit in it and your off and running with minimal Betaflight config. Your going to need a Ascent to DJI o4 Pro adapter but don't worry, ill send you the file to print it yourself with TPU and if you don't have a printer Ill make you a handful of them and mail you them for free.

There is no cheap way about 4s or bigger battery's unfortunately so try and find an amazon deal and snag a PD60 USB charger for 4s on the cheap.

Thank you so much I will definitely look into this. You are an absolute legend for this. I will probably lean more towards that first setup you had just because the dji goggles and air unit cost so much. Do you think getting a tiny whoop is better than getting a 3.5 starting out?

@Ironclad_8260 yes, getting a whoop is better than a 3.5" for most people starting out. a whoop frame is $6, a 3.5" frame is +$40. Whoop motors are $10, 3.5" motors are $20. A whoop aio is under $100 and has vtx, 3.5" aio is +$80 and you still need the vtx. 1s batteries are under $10, 4s batteries are +$20. the best 1s charger is $40, the best 4s-6s charger is +$100.
people that go big for their first drones can probably fly great, but they will never know how much better they could have been if they bought a drone they could fly almost every day, almost anywhere. Sims are great, but they aren't a 1:1 sub for irl, in general you want to fly irl as much as possible, even if its in a house or small apartment. the size of the drone doesnt matter, it's the composition of the system. A 65mm whoop can fly advanced freestyle or long range and a ducted 5" can fly highly stabilized cinematic. just changing the propeller type on a drone can drastically change the flight characteristics.
be wary of what type of digital system you get, sure dji sucks, but caddx is supporting 2 entirely separate transmission protocols and no one knows which one theyre going to stick with or if theyre just going to release a 3rd next year and drop both the current ones.

I have a whoop that I fly more than anything. It's stealthy, literally fits in the palm of my hand with a few accessories that need to go with it, and with four to six batteries I can fly for hours while the other is charge. It's unbeatable in my opinion, and for starting out there's no way you'll get more air time than this. It's also very affordable to repair if things go wrong.

Trust me, a tinywhoop first. You won't be scared to crash because nothing will happen because they are super durable. If something breakes, you can swap parts that are way cheaper than 3.5 or 5 inch drones. You won't high power at the start. Also they are super fun. I recommend meteor 75 pro(analog version) i an using it for a year and a half and it is super durable.
