Author note

This comparison is designed to help people understand the differences between various video transmission systems. If you have any questions at all, please reach out. Also check out the comparison details below to understand what to look for when evaluating different systems.

This is NOT a scientific test. Just a comparison in my backyard. There are many factors which can improve or reduce the quality of a video signal.

Where possible, I used the cheapest VTX/drone (VTX = video transmitter) I could for image transmission. DJI, Walksnail, HDzero, and analogue all have more expensive, higher-performing VTX units. This is the MINIMUM BASELINE, and all systems can improve from what is shown here.

Images were recorded in the middle of the day in full sun.

What to look for when comparing FPV goggles

1

Fine detail

Can you see the wire strung up for the plants near the pink marks?

2

Detail in distant objects

How clearly can you see objects that are far away?

3

Image clarity

Does the front tree blend into the tree behind it?

4

Field of view (FOV)

How wide is the overall image? How much can you see?

5

Subject visibility

Did you notice me next to the tree? How much do I blend in? Can you see me at all?

6

Shadow detail

How dark are the shadows compared to other systems?

7

Colour vibrancy

Do colours stand out? Is the image vibrant or dull?

8

Compression artefacts

Does the image blend large patches of green like grass, or is it clear from compression?

Ignore the black bar at the side of the DJI image. This is my homemade camera mount for the VTX. It will not be present on your images.
