Mobula 8 had a hard crash while doing a split s over aluminium goal posts. You should see the goalposts now😂
the camera cables snapped and the VTX had no antenna for several minutes. The canopy is shattered. Is the drone salvageable or should I just buy a new one? Especially if the VTX is fried. I could sense this one was on its last legs anyways.
Everything is repairable. Your board is salvagable and can be reused. Sounds like you'll need a new camera but if it's a small micro low powered vtx it's probably ok from not having antenna connected.
It's a good idea to stock up on spare frames etc.

Yeah if you need a camera and a canopy it should be a pretty simple fix. Can you update us on what you're sure is broken? (Are the camera wires long enough to direct solder?)
I’ve got a frame, the antenna snapped and the camer wires snapper around halfway and on the top of the camera, the problem is, the mobula 8 has a plug and play camera, so if I were to just buy a new camera it wouldn’t fit, I don’t r
trust my soldering skills to be doing a JST connector.
The antenna and frame are for the bin then but the rest should be salvageable. You might discover you've knackered the motors or other parts once you've rebuilt it but it's definitely worth trying.
What do you mean by "on top" when there is a socket there ?
You can rejoin/splice wires but it does get trickier closer to the camera, and especially when applying heat shrink.
You can prise the plug off to expose the solder pads for soldering direct. They are tiny , but do-able, and worth the risk.
I crammed a Runcam nano into a mobula8 frame with HGLRC hardware. Super tight fit! Not much camera angle but still a cracking wee quad for mucking about the garden
@GreenthumbFPV although there is a plug at the top on the official CADDX Ant, happymodel seems to have taken it off and just directly soldered the wires on, the wires have come desoldered, not snapped. It looks like the CADDX ant camera comes with a male-male 3 Pin JST connector though? Also, would this antenna work?https://www.diyfpv.com/catalog/flyfishrc-osprey-5-8ghz-40mm-u-fl-antenna-rhcp-black
That's fine man. Not my preference but some come soldered direct to camera. Can be good for tight spaces in micros but are prone to breaking. I've done that repair a couple of times. You'll manage it. Just use the smallest tip you have.
Remove the backing and clean up round the pads. Take note/a picture of your wiring left to right , to keep you right...tho I suppose there'll be an image online
Yeh man, that antenna looks good, it's matching polarity that's important when not using dipole.
Any ufl antenna will do the job. My Mob8 was a transplant making use of parts. I used a simple dipole ufl antenna I'd spare. Kept weight down and the ufl fit nicely into -very crammed- build.
@GreenthumbFPV can you verify that the CADDX Ant will come with a 3 pin M-M cable?
I checked the Caddx Ant lite I've spare. It comes with plug socket and wires. I think I wanted the socket-less one for tight build. I ended up using nano3 that was wires only.
Most cameras are supplied with three wired cable for wiring to FC
Thankyou @GreenthumbFPV for all the help you have provided over the past couple of days. Best wishes for your future endeavours
You're welcome @plsdontcrash, anytime. Happy flying ✌️
