Are you flying analog or a digital system? Patch antennas on the goggles work best for long range, for example the TrueRC X-AIR MKII. For antennas on the quad I would recommend the Lumenier AXII 2 or the TrueRC Matchstick. And yes making sure the antennas are the furthest away from the quad and their deadspot not pointing straight at you will also improve range.

You might also want to look into lower frequency transmittion like 1.2 / 1.3GHz, since lower frequencies have longer range and greater penetration, although it might be illegal in your country. Hope this helps!
