What Affects Range and Penetration of Analog Video Feed?
What usually determines the range and penetration of analog video feed? Is it vTX on drone or RF modules on googles?
My video feed quality drops below 20% at >150ft and penetration is bad through any exterior (non-drywall) walls. I'd like to know which I should upgrade first.
Specs
- Drone: Air65 (ELRS, 5.8G 25mw~400mw VTX)
- Goggles: Eachine EV800D goggles (RF Modules: 2x (-90dB) RX5808 PRO)

Usually the VTX (on drone) does the Transmission to the goggles, sometimes the goggles send a signal back (gimbal head tracking for example) and then the goggles need sufficient power to reach the drone.
Then again, the antennae on both the drone and the goggles as well as the analog module in/on your goggles also impacts the range/penetration.
Though no matter how much you upgrade, sometimes the signal won't be able to penetrate.

Individual experience may vary, but in my experience having a good module for the goggles, there are several now days (Speedybee,Foxeer,rapid fire,tbs fusion) then the best antenna you can afford (max mushroom, vas, Foxeer, true rc) and keep the connections cleaned every so often. And the main Omni on your gogz should be tall enough to go over the top of your head when the gogz are on your face. The vtx @400mw is honestly pretty good. And that’s where I would run it. The Foxeer V5 lollipop is very light and strong and has excellent stats and works really good on the vtx. TBS air screw is the best main Omni for gogz I’ve found. And is tall enough as well. These are good starting points and what I’ve used and had great results. I hope that helps!
