So I made a move. Buckle up, I am long winded here. TLDR at the end
I have flown analog for about a year. But, it was on a cetus pro. I now have some ev800d's and they are leaps and bounds above where I was. Then I saw a video in another language talking about the crux35 running an O4. Had a lot of info, but being new and not knowing much it was tough to get what I needed.
So, I got an O4 air unit(lite) and g3's. I haven't built a drone yet, but I just added the O4 to a Crux35 v2 analog. A lot to learn and I am sure they were all issues you've all dealt with, maybe. But I digress.
What had me stuck for a minute was, could I use the VIN and VOUT the analog vtx used on the FC. Would still love an explanation of if it would work on a digital system or not. I might want to add a gps, and don't have an available uart.
I ended up soldering the tx and rx from O4 to tx1 and rx1 on the Crazyf411, which were open. Added a 9v 1.5a bec just incase the 5v 1.5a on board was too weak. In the video he used Oscar Liangs aos v5 tpu mounts. So I modified it a bit for what I thought he meant for clearance and printed them. But I have to shave a bit more off with a knife. I added another evenly spaced hole kinda where I thought it should be. Not sure how good it is. But it's pretty tight. Might redesign now that I have everything. But meh. The video I watched he had used a toothpick behind the camera to hold the bottom..
In betaflight I then had to activate the uart1 as an MSP and set peripherals to MSP+display port. To get the osd working right, I had set it to HD and ran a cli command "set osd_device_displayport_device = msp". In all that had to learn to bind dji stuff.
In the end it's 22 grams lighter than the one carrying a thumbpro w and a buzzer. I did have to get some longer screws for the blades to fit the Gemfan 3520's. Got peek screws m2 8mm. Hope they hold.
TLDR: Got an O4 air unit and goggles 3, put the camera in a Crux35 v2 Analog.
It was a fun experience. JB said I was going to learn something today.. Thanks for reading. Flight footage incoming, even if it's a crash and burn.
