I am a fairly new pilot, an older gentleman who is a self proclaimed 'jack of all trades' that can learn anything. After a few recommended YouTube videos, I spent most of October through January buying, waiting for shipping, building, learning how to solder properly, and fly ( mostly crash ) in the house ( Washington DC FRZ/SFRA ). I started with a 7" ( thanks YouTube ) and moved to 3.5 and 10" ( these hurt ).
A few weeks ago I asked for advice here and ended up going with the DJI Avata2, wanting to have a more premium experience instead of just crashing and fixing my budget analog Ali Express drones I had built.. Around the same time I used coupon codes and bought an O4 pro based geprc D5, which hasn't shown up yet.
I have fallen in love with the digital video experience. Flying in the beginner mode lasted about 2 minutes in the house, forcing me to drive a few times now to the closest allowed area and just let her rip.
I am flying with the DJI FPV controller and goggles 3 - after some initial adjustment I was in the air and flying, and I mean really confidently flying. I flip it to sport mode and wow.. this is what I was looking for.
I have not fully gotten into manual mode yet that will be my next task. Im sure my confidence will result in a DJI refresh call. I have flown limited acro in the house but having to drive 30 minutes to a field and ultimately a quick crash was not very fun. Crashing is part of the learning game from what I can tell.
Is it going to be possible for me to go back to the straight analog experience again? is the Geprc o4 based drone going to be my next step in this journey? Im thinking it will be hard to go back until I get very proficient in acro. Horizon/angle modes dont even come close to the confidence you get with the DJI's hold/pause button.
I also have an analog meteor75 on the way so I can fly more in the house and practice acro/orientation.
updates soon!
