Tiny Whoop Showdown: What I Learned Flying the Air65, Meteor65, and Mobula6
Our DIYFPV fleet includes three 65mm whoops: a Mobula6, an Air65, and a Meteor65. Each of them has its pros and cons, and after some flying (and a few inevitable crashes), here’s how they compare.
The Air65 is a great flyer overall and came with a solid battery pigtail - easy to plug in and unplug without struggle, but still snug enough not to disconnect mid-flight. However, the downsides are quite big. The AIO doesn’t have a VOUT pad, which completely rules out having an OSD when adding an external VTX if the onboard one fails. The motors are directly soldered to the board, making repairs more tedious, and it uses BetaFPV 27000KV motors (to only change the single broken one instead of all 4), which I haven’t found for a reasonable price compared to the Happymodel 28000KV alternatives
The Meteor65 is a bit older - I actually got it for free when I bought my FPV goggles since the seller had no use for it anymore and it was partially broken. Its F4 1S 5A AIO is very limited in terms of IO - just one free UART and no VOUT pad either. That said, it does have motor connectors, which makes maintenance easier (though it adds a tiny bit of weight, so it’s a trade-off).
And finally, the Mobula6 - its SuperX ELRS AIO 5-in-1 has it all: multiple free UARTs, a VOUT pad, and motor connectors. The only real downside is the battery pigtail. It’s a nightmare to disconnect batteries from - so much so that the stress applied when changing the batteries eventually caused the wires to snap off. First at the AIO side and then at the connector itself. If you get one, I highly recommend replacing the stock BT2.0 lead with a new one right away (that’s what I did for ours).
If I were to buy another 65mm whoop today, out of these three, I’d definitely go for the Mobula6. It strikes the best balance between build quality, repairability, and future-proofing - and after a few simple tweaks, it’s been the most reliable of the bunch.
