Basic 5" drone for student pilot
5" quadcopter - Looking for a good home! (A good home would be someone who needs a cheap but workable basic quadcopter to start out with LOS flying. Not looking for much money, but you would need to pay for shipping)
The backstory is that a former member of our club put this drone together and gave it to another member shortly before he (the builder) passed away. Because of the personal history, we would rather it go to someone who can make use of it, rather than try to make a lot of money. And it's really not worth all that much.
The problem is that most of the hardware is fairly old, and likely not of much interest to current active pilots:
* It uses the F3 processor which is no longer supported by Betaflight (SPRacing F3. Manual here: http://seriouslypro.com/files/SPRacingF3-Manual-latest.pdf)
* It uses 20A ESCs which are really too small for freestyle or racing on a quad this size
* It uses older ESCs that only support the obsolete Oneshot 125 protocol and can't be updated.
* It has no camera or VTX (and the flight controller has no support for OSD anyway)
Having said that, there is some good news. I was able to create a custom build of Betaflight 4.2.11 (the last version that supported the F3 processor). By eliminating a number of more advanced features, I was able to squeeze in most of the things that would be useful to a new pilot including GPS telemetry, rescue mode, and acro-trainer mode. (You would have to add your own GPS.) It also has LEDs on the arms (white in the front, red on the back), another feature that is very useful to a beginner. The frame and motors seem good, and it flies well. It currently has an ELRS receiver - if you want something else, I would need to check and make sure that it's included in the build.
Depending on interest levels, I'm probably willing to go lower on the price. But really hoping that it will go to someone who wants to fly it.
