Left a review on product DJI 03 Air Unit

Not as good as the 04 but still a damn good unit

This vtx has given me a lot of joy. It does 4K easy, and is backwards compatible all the way to DJI Goggles V2. This is basically what you'll find in a DJI Avata, though customized for the Avata.

If you're like me you're stuck with last generation's tech because you are still clinging to your old goggles; this is the latest air unit compatible with the Goggles V2.

Gorgeous and adds function

I'm impressed with these light strips. I thought I was just getting a pretty led strip with some good customizable effects. What I didn't understand is that through the included lighting controller's uart I'm also getting the ability to configure my inav install through speedybee's phone app and bluetooth. Talk about value added!

I know these were originally made for the Bee35, but you can cut the strips to any size. They are nice and thin and easy to mount.

I bought three for my TBS Mojito to light up the wing and tail leading edges and man are they phenomenal. The color clarity is awesome and they are nice and bright. I love the customizability of the lighting functions as well.

Through the UART they seem to be communicating on a base level with my inav install, as when the wing is "Not ready" or in a disarmed state, the LEDS automatically go red. When it's ready, they go green. This is without any additional configuration in inav, so the engineers of speedybee must have done some really clever stuff here.

All in all I highly recommend these leds!

Aerodynamically sound.

As far as I can tell this is the only antenna out there for RC planes that is made for Aerodynamics. The teardrop shape of the plastic cover is optimally designed for aerodynamic flow. Does the job and admirably.

I know it seems counterintuitive but it must be said; the pointy part faces the tail, the flatish part faces the nose. The trailing edge is where the teardrop shape reduces drag. If you mount it backwards, you are introducing drag to your design and the whole thing was for nothing.

Great stack!

This is a great wing stack! This was my first FC, first experience with iNav, first fixed wing drone build, and I managed to build something that flew and flew well using this FC. Being h743 based it has a ton of uarts so you can really jam pack your wing with all kinds of sensors and stuff. Documentation was decent for this in inav and ardupilot. It can take whatever you want to throw at it.

Left a review on product TBS Lucid H7 Flight Controller

Good H7 design but bring a magnifying glass

I never felt so old as I did when I tried to set up a Lucid H7.

I used to be nearsighted until I got corrective surgery. It was a bit like having microscope vision; I could hold things up to my eye and get a real good look at them. After the surgery, I couldn't do that anymore. But now that I've aged past 40, they are getting worse and wow this FC really showcased that.

This is a great fully featured H7 FC but when you go to solder on it bring a magnifying glass. The pads and writing are just beyond my ability to see clearly without assistance. They definitely require some skill.

I can't really knock off a star for that though, just my personal experience. Some people might prefer them this small, for weight savings or the ability to put into a very compact stack.

All said, this is what's currently in my Mojito, and it works admirably. I just hope to god I never have to break it down and resolder it.

A fan favorite

Speedybee is one of the more recognizable brands in this hobby and the reason is clear; their products are superior. Everyone loves their F405!

It was so easy to set up from start to finish. Minimal soldering. Fits together like a glove. Rock solid once constructed.

I am foaming at the mouth for Speedybee to come out with an H7 wing style FC, because my only complaint about the Speedybee F405 is there aren't enough uarts for all the crap I like to jam into my builds.

Works as advertised

Great little pitot and a great little chip to go along with it. The airspeed readings seem to be accurate and it's worked through quite a few flights so far.

My only issue is for the love of god don't drop it on the floor. The little plastic pieces mounted on the PCB will break right the heck off if it strikes the floor in just the right way.

Functional Lidar for smaller planes

If you're like me and are itching to try out some of the cooler new iNav features like nap of the earth flying or automatic fixed wing landing, this lidar is a pretty good entry point. There are better units available and the technology is really moving fast in this field, but the price is sure right.

It can be used with uart or even set to use i2c if you have the right dongle for programming it.

I highly recommend; it's not much added weight and it unlocks new features. I put one of these on all of my fixed wing builds so far because I'm a giant nerd.

Left a review on product T-Motor F100 2810 1100Kv Motor

Great for Cine, great for Fixed Wing

This is a fantastic little motor that I've used to power my Dolphin and Dolphin pro. It really goes. Never had any problems with it even on 6s with a 8x4.5 biblade prop. If you have the means I recommend shoehorning this into the OG dolphin. Talk about a rocket ride.

Beastly

I'm told this was built to break records and I believe it. It's a hell of a motor, maybe the best mass produced brushless available in this size. Originally bundled with the Mojito and well sized for it; this thing can push some serious freaking thrust.

September 29, 2025 at 6:55 PM

Bulletproof

After receiving one of these with my TBS Mojito, I now use this esc on all my wing builds above a certain size. It handles just about whatever I throw at it, and for added peace of mind you can use 6 10x10mm aluminum heatsinks on and some good thermal adhesive to make it even more resilient.

A dissapointing Sequel

Sadly I have to report that although there are some great new features and thoughtful design put into this airframe, it is just not as good as the original Dolphin.

The word Pro is a good designation though; it is a more professional version and you'll need to be more of a pro to get it flying right. So far I've tried launching this thing 3 times and all three times it has ended in airtime measured in the seconds and a broken part.

I love the built in lights, I love the roomy interior, and I love that it has control surfaces on the tail. I love the bespoke foam battery bay cover that's meant for a gimbal setup, and I love the quick disconnects for this bay cover, though I wish they had included the quick disconnects in the stock kit.

Unfortunately the CG markings seem to be off from factory and the thrust angle needs a little love. It has great potential it's just flawed.

It's got some stubbier wings than the OG dolphin, although not by much, and it seems to be less aerodynamic. A little bit heavier than the original too. I'm told this little guy doesn't seem to achieve the same speeds as it's progenitor, though I'm sure you could put a big enough motor on it to compensate.

All in all I wish I had waited literally 2 more weeks and picked up a chupito.

Left a review on product AtomRC Dolphin Plane Kit - Black

Really quite something!

So disclaimer, this is the first plane I ever built. An excellent choice apparently, even though it wasn't the most beginner friendly in the world it is one heck of an airframe.

Extremely nimble, lots of room for stuff, and it can be made to go at a decent speed. Extremely stable, well reinforced, and there are so many mods out for it. You can get just about anything 3d printed for this plane.

I've seen twin tractor dolphins, I've seen vtol dolphins, I've seen dolphins soaring among the clouds and I've seen 12s dolphins go 188mph. I'm even following someone who's making a full carbon fiber Dolphin. It's an extremely popular and versatile design.

One of the few must haves in the fixed wing fpv world.

Advanced speed demon with good kit

TBS is back baby, and they've announced their return with a hell of a plane. Behold the frickin' Mojito.

This plane is as they have said "A weapon". This is an advanced build for advanced users who want it all and aren't afraid of getting their hands dirty building, tweaking, and reinforcing it. It can go ridiculously fast with the hardware included; so fast it may, in a stock build, lose control authority and turn into a crater sometimes.

The problem from what I can gather is the design is incredibly efficient and slippery, and can reach some pretty insane speeds. Unfortunately the massive knife-thin wings are not stable enough to sustain these speeds without flutter or wing twist. They sure cut through the air like its nothing through.

To reduce this issue, TBS has included reinforcement spars and there are good instructions on where to reinforce. A lot of people also recommend lamination to strengthen up the wings. Last but not least, many are recommending to cut off the ailerons and tape them back in to loosen them up a bit, increase deflection a little, and put less stress on the servos. It seems attempts by hobbyists to stiffen this wing up enough to really push the performance envelope are still ongoing.

Speaking of servos, I haven't been able to determine if the included servos have metal gears or not. I doubt they do; as at least one of my servos needed replacement after becoming stripped. If we're talking about building this wing out to go 200-250+ KMH, the servos have to be able to handle some serious force on the ailerons, and plastic gear servos are likely not going to be able to handle that. The servo arms included are also plastic, and I do not trust them. Replacing at least the 2 aileron servos with stronger metal geared servos and carbon servo arms is necessary imo.

The kit included is damn good as far as the motor and esc goes. The AOS Supernova 3220 1000kv is a hell of a motor, maybe one of the best mass produced motors available. The included TBS AM32 12s ESC is a great piece of kit on its own. Plenty to power it. Heck I started using TBS 12s ESC's in all my builds. They are rock solid and the mosfets are the perfect size for individual 10x10 heat sinks.

The included wing PDB has it's problems and I think there are a couple revisions of it out there. Each revision has caveats of it's own, but they can be made to work.

The included FC is a lucid F4 and is enough for most people, however if you're like me and want to go all out on uart controlled devices you might be better off with something H7 based as they can generally support more uarts. The included GPS is good enough; does the trick and all but a magnetometer would have been great to have in case of GPS interference. The included prop appeared to be a good composite APC prop, at 8x4, and does the job. That said the kit is underpropped and there is some headroom to play with here.

All in all, if I had to do it again, i'd skip the PNP version and go straight to DIY. I'd then pick up the same motor and esc separately and buy all the rest of the parts from scratch. The fact that I had to pry apart the wings that were previously glued in order to reinforce them, and also to access the electronics compartments in the wings and run wires means that I had to do half the DIY work anyway. That said my personal choices of hardware rarely line up with the PNP kit and the included stuff still works. It can still fly without wing reinforcement or speed mods. You just need to be careful with it and go easy on the throttle. If you lose control authority during a dive, or one of the servos strips, there's nothing you can do to keep this from turning into a crater.

Even with ALL OF THE ABOVE, I still give this 4 stars. It's a great design for advanced hobbyists and people that want a platform to really tweak. The thing when built out properly is incredibly efficient and can be made to go extremely fast. The gents at TBS have been very thoughtful here and have included an integrated carbon fiber catapult hook, which is great for people like me that are huge cowards when it comes to props. The LED slots in the wing and tail leading edges are *chefs kiss*. The spoilers are a fantastic innovation and actually useful due to the fact that this design gains a lot of speed when losing altitude. The battery bay is massive and electronics bay big enough for most anything. The removable wings are great I just wish they came fully unassembled so we can customize and reinforce them a little easier.

It's a pleasure to fly but also a pleasure to work on. All in all, I'm finding a lot of pleasure just tweaking and reinforcing it. I think I might even fill, sand, gloss, and wax it to make it even more slippery.

I am also seriously looking forward to trying this plane's little brother; the Chupito!
