It also explains exactly what we receive when you choose to sign in with Google, Facebook or Discord.

1. Information we collect

We may collect the following types of information:
  • Information provided directly by you when creating an account, interacting with our site, or uploading content.
  • Information we receive from Google, Facebook or Discord when you choose to sign in with one of them (see section 2).
  • Information collected automatically through cookies, tracking tools, and device/browser interactions.

a. Personal information

  • Email address
  • Username
  • Display name and profile picture, if you set one
  • Country
  • Link to your social media profile(/s)
  • Approximate location set by you in our pilots map
  • Your currency, language and notification preferences, and the password you set (stored only as an Argon2 hash, never in plain text)

b. Non-personal information

We may automatically collect certain information when you use the site, including:
  • IP address
  • Device type
  • Browser type and version
  • Page views and clicks (analytics purposes)

c. User-generated content

Your uploaded content, such as drone builds, images, dashboard posts, marketplace listings, troubleshoot questions, comments, private messages and other community contributions.

2. Signing in with Google, Facebook or Discord

DIYFPV lets you create an account and sign in with Google, Facebook or Discord instead of choosing a password. We only receive information from those providers if you pick that option and approve it on the provider's own consent screen. You can always create an account with an email address and password instead.

a. What Google user data we access

When you sign in with Google we request only the standard sign-in scopes openid, email and profile. Google then provides us with:
  • the email address on your Google account, and whether Google has verified it;
  • your basic Google profile: the name and profile picture on that account;
  • your Google account identifier, which is the value we use to recognise you the next time you sign in;
  • the OAuth tokens Google issues to prove that the sign-in happened.
We do not request, receive or have any ability to read your Gmail messages, Google Drive files, Contacts, Calendar, Photos, location history or any other Google service data. The same applies to the Facebook and Discord sign-ins, where we receive only your email address and basic public profile.

b. How we use Google user data

We use it only to provide and secure the sign-in feature you asked for:
  • to create your DIYFPV account and sign you in on later visits;
  • to pre-fill your display name and profile picture, both of which you can change or remove at any time in your profile;
  • to treat your email address as verified, so you can receive the account and community emails you have asked for;
  • to connect the Google sign-in to an existing DIYFPV account that already uses the same verified email address, so you do not end up with two accounts;
  • to protect the account against abuse, for example by detecting repeated failed or automated sign-in attempts.
We do not use Google user data for advertising or ad targeting, we do not sell it, we do not use it for credit or lending purposes, and we do not use it to develop, improve or train generalised artificial intelligence or machine-learning models.

c. How we store and protect it

Your email address, name, profile picture URL and Google account identifier are stored alongside the rest of your DIYFPV profile in our PostgreSQL database, hosted in the United States. The OAuth tokens are stored in a separate table and are used only to complete the sign-in. All traffic between your browser, Google and our servers runs over HTTPS/TLS, the database is encrypted at rest and is reachable only from our own application servers, and access by our staff is limited to the small number of people who operate the service, and only for support, security or legal reasons.

d. Who we share it with

We do not sell, rent, transfer or disclose Google user data to any third party. It is stored in our own database, on the hosting infrastructure that runs this website, and goes nowhere else. It is not sent to analytics, advertising, email or AI services. The only two exceptions are:
  • information you publish yourself: your display name and profile picture appear next to your posts and are publicly visible;
  • where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to protect our rights and the safety of our members.
DIYFPV's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

e. How to disconnect or delete it

  • You can revoke DIYFPV's access to your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Your DIYFPV account itself stays open; you can set a password and keep using it, or delete it.
  • Deleting your DIYFPV account deletes the Google data we hold about you, including the stored tokens, in the same operation. See section 6.

3. How we use your information

We use the information collected to:
  • Provide and improve our services.
  • Facilitate account creation, sign-in and account management.
  • Personalize your user experience.
  • Respond to inquiries and provide customer support.
  • Send you service emails you have asked for, such as replies, mentions and marketplace notifications.
  • Send promotional materials (if opted in).
  • Analyze website usage to improve functionality.
  • Keep the community safe: moderate content, detect spam and abuse, and enforce our terms.
  • Ensure compliance with legal obligations.
We rely on the contract between us to run your account, on your consent for analytics cookies and marketing email, and on our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and working.

4. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that run parts of the site for us, under contract and only for that purpose. These fall into a small number of categories:
  • Hosting and infrastructure: the servers, database, image storage and content delivery network that run the website.
  • Email delivery: sending account emails and, if you opted in, our newsletter.
  • Analytics and error monitoring: understanding how the site is used and diagnosing crashes. Analytics only loads if you allow analytics cookies.
  • Content processing and moderation: automated checks and processing of the content you submit, such as screening uploaded images.
Data received from a social sign-in is not shared with any of these beyond the hosting and infrastructure that stores it (see section 2). We are happy to name the specific providers we use on request: email .We may also share information:
  • Publicly, because you chose to: usernames, profile details, and content you post are visible to anyone visiting the site.
  • With legal authorities: if required by law or to protect our rights.
  • In a business transfer: if DIYFPV is ever merged or acquired, under the same protections as this policy.
Some of these providers are located outside the European Economic Area. Where that is the case, transfers are covered by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

5. Cookies and tracking

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to improve website performance and enhance your experience. These include:
  • Necessary Cookies: Some cookies are required to provide core functionality, including the cookie that keeps you signed in. The website won't function properly without these cookies and they are enabled by default and cannot be disabled.
  • Analytical Cookies: Analytical cookies help us improve our website by collecting and reporting information on its usage.

6. Data retention and deletion

We keep your account information for as long as your account exists. Beyond that:
  • Sign-in sessions expire after at most 90 days, and are deleted when you sign out.
  • Google, Facebook and Discord sign-in data, including the stored OAuth tokens, is deleted when you delete your account.
  • Analytics records are retained by our analytics providers for up to 12 months.
  • Unsubscribe records: if you unsubscribe, we keep a minimal record of your address on a suppression list so that we do not email you again.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account yourself at any time from Profile → Edit profile → Delete account, or by emailing , in which case we action it within 30 days. Deletion removes your email address, name, profile picture, connected social logins and their tokens, private messages, saved products, map location, notification settings and marketplace listings. Where you have contributed to public discussions, the contribution may remain with your name replaced by "Deleted user", so that other members' threads stay readable. Residual copies can persist in encrypted backups for a short period before those backups are overwritten.

7. Your rights

DIYFPV.COM, SIA is the data controller for the information described here. Under the GDPR you have the right to access your data, correct it, delete it, receive a copy of it in a portable format, restrict or object to how we use it, and withdraw consent at any time. Most of this you can do yourself in your profile settings; for anything else, email and we will respond within one month. If you believe we have handled your data wrongly, you may complain to the Data State Inspectorate of Latvia (Datu valsts inspekcija) or to the supervisory authority in your own country.

8. Security measures

We prioritize the security of your personal data by implementing industry-standard practices such as encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest, hashed passwords, firewall protection, and continuous monitoring of our systems for vulnerabilities. In the unlikely event of a breach, we follow a strict protocol to notify affected users and the competent supervisory authority, and to mitigate risks promptly. While we strive to ensure the highest level of security, we encourage users to adopt strong passwords and remain vigilant against phishing attempts.

9. Third party links

Our site may include links to websites or services operated by third parties, including the online stores whose prices we compare. These links are provided for your convenience and to enhance your experience. However, we do not control or endorse the content, privacy policies, or practices of these third-party sites. We strongly encourage you to review their privacy policies and terms of use independently, as we are not responsible for the actions, practices, or content of third-party websites.

10. Children's privacy

DIYFPV is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this privacy policy

We may update this policy periodically. Changes will be posted on this page with the updated “Last updated” date, and if the change affects how we use data received from Google or another sign-in provider, we will also notify account holders by email. Continued use of the site signifies your acceptance of the revised policy.
